Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh won India’s second silver medal in the Asian Games on September 24 after narrowly losing to China in the men’s lightweight double sculls final in Hangzhou [China]. The Indians, who came in 11th position at the Tokyo Olympics, went on to defy the odds and win first place.
The Army men won India’s second silver medal of the day in the Men’s Lightweight Doubles Scull Final A with a time of 6:28:18. Fan Junjie and Sun Man from China took first place with a time of 6:23.16s. With this, China has already clinched a second Asian Games gold. Uzbekistan finished in 6:33.42 seconds, good enough for a bronze medal. The Indian team challenged the hosts throughout the competition.
China was able to widen the margin with 500 meters remaining by establishing a 2.73 second lead. Uzbekistan kept their third-place standing.
Ramita, Mehuli Ghosh, and Ashi Chouksey clinched silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event at the conclusion of the qualification round with a combined score of 1886, giving India their first medal of the competition. The pair of Ramita (631.9) in second place and Mehuli (630.8) in fifth place made it into the individual finals. Han Jiayu of China, on the other hand, increased the threshold by breaking the previous Qualification Asian Record with a score of 634.1, which was earned by her colleague Zhao Ruozhu in New Delhi in 2019.
